Steve McLean was a two-time All-American forward for the men’s soccer program. McLean notched 42 goals in his four-year career, which is ninth on the Philadelphia University’s all-time list. His 108 career points, including a team-best 50 points in 1983, sits seventh all-time. McLean, the Soccer Seven MVP in 1983 and Co-MVP in 1980, is tied with Leon Creary '96 for most goals in a season with 21 goals in '83.

Professionally, McLean signed on to play with the Charlotte Gold of the United Soccer League in 1984. After one season with the Gold, he went to play in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He played in 35 games with th Wichita Wings (19, 1984-86) and the New York Express (16, 1986-87).
