McGilvery was a member of the 1970 men’s basketball national championship team, which was inducted into the Philadelphia University Hall of Fame in 2007. During that championship season, which was McGilvery’s senior year, he led the team with 19.5 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. His 412 rebounds are the third most in a single season. As the team’s sixth man in his junior season, McGilvery averaged 13.8 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. In his career McGilvery netted 1,101 points to place him 39th on the school’s all-time scoring list.
