Robert “Bob” Smith was the first Ram in program history to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. In his junior season in 1975, he led the squad in RBI and tied for the lead in hits while posting a .375   batting average. Smith’s success drew the interest of the New York Yankees, who chose Smith in the 18th round of the 1975 draft. Smith turned pro and played 54 games of Single-A ball before a knee injury cut his career short. He was ranked as one of the Yankees’ Top 10 prospects before his injury.

Smith went on to enjoy a very successful career in business, culminating in serving as President and CEO of the IMARK Group, a member-owned group of independent distributors in the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing industries. He has been a very generous supporter of Jefferson via council service and financial contributions.
