Carlton Poole was a captain of the 1969-70 men’s basketball team that captured the NCAA College Division National Championship. He was named to the All-Tournament Team and also earned All-America honors.
Over his four seasons with the Rams from 1966-70, Poole scored 1,423 points and grabbed 1,061 rebounds, good for sixth and third respectively in program history at the time. He was the third player to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
Poole helped lead the Rams to a 90-20 record over his collegiate career, an .818 winning percentage. Philadelphia Textile made the NCAA Tournament all four years.
After departing East Falls, Poole was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the seventh round of the 1970 NBA Draft as well as the New York (now Brooklyn) Nets in the sixth round of the 1970 ABA Draft.
A member of Coach Herb Magee’s first squad in 1967-68, Poole is the fourth player from the 1970 National Championship Team to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, joining Jim McGilvery, John Pierantozzi, and Bruce Shively.
