Women's volleyball earns split with Nyack and Adelphi

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team earned a split in a home tri-match Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center as it defeated Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match, 3-2, and fell to Adelphi, 3-2.

After the two matches, Philadelphia is now 5-5 overall and a perfect 4-0 in CACC play.

In the first match against Nyack (6-9, 2-1 CACC), Philadelphia dominated the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-10, to take a 2-0 lead. The Warriors came back to tie the match with a 25-15 set three win and a 25-20 set four victory. Philadelphia pulled out the final set 15-13.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) led the Rams with 14 kills, six coming in the deciding set, and 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) contributed 10 kills and a match-high 17 digs, while junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) added 10 kills.

Sophomore setters Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla./Springstead) recorded 30 and 14 assists, respectively. Morvin also posted 15 digs.

Nyack got 14 kills from Abbey Lawson and 31 assists from Brianna Kane.

Later in the day, Adelphi (7-6) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage by winning the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-13. Philadelphia fought back to came from behind win set three 25-21 and take the fourth set 25-15. The Panthers took the match with a 15-10 set five win.

Once again, Olson was the Rams' offensive leader as she posted a season-best 19 kills, six in the set four win, to go with 11 digs. Ecker was also in double figures with 12 kills.  

Morvin had 26 assists and Schillinger recorded 19 assists. Manley was the defensive leader with 17 digs.

Haley Blunt paced Adelphi with 19 kills, while Kaitlyn DeStefano had 14 kills. Katie Bryson tallied 47 assists.

Philadelphia heads to Wilmington (Del.) for a CACC match on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
