Women's volleyball falls to Wilmington (Del.) in three

NEWARK, Del. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team suffered its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss of the season after falling to host Wilmington (Del.), 3-0, Tuesday night in the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (10-7, 5-0 CACC) earned the win with set scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) led the Philadelphia (5-6, 4-1 CACC) offense with eight kills along with 17 digs. Senior right side hitter Jordan Milligan (Evansville, Ind./Central) added seven kills.

Sophomore setters Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla./Springstead) recorded 17 and 12 assists, respectively. Schillinger added 11 digs for her second double-double of the year.

Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles) was the team's defensive leader with 22 digs.

Allison Briley recorded a match-high 11 kills for the Wildcats, while Kaitlin DiGiacinto posted a match-best 27 digs.

Philadelphia scored the first three points of the opening set. Wilmington responded with four unanswered points to take a 4-3 lead. After swapping seven straight points, the Wildcats went on a 4-0 run to open up an 11-7 gap and take control of the set.

A Manley kill late in the second set gave the Rams an 18-16 lead. Wilmington scored the next two points to tie the set up at 18 and force Philadelphia to call timeout. Out of the timeout, Schillinger recorded her second kill of the set to put the Rams in front 19-18. Wilmington ended the set by scoring seven of the final eight points.

Like the first set, Philadelphia was able to take an early 3-0 lead in set three. The Rams were able to hold the lead until the Wildcats scored six straight points to put Wilmington ahead 14-10. Trailing 23-20, junior outside hitter Lauren Elliott (Austin, Texas/North Middlesex), Milligan, and Morvin each recorded a kill to tie the set at 23. Wilmington ended the match with a Briley kill and a solo block from Katie Shorter.

Philadelphia travels to Georgian Court for a CACC match on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
