Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team won its third consecutive match after knocking off Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Chestnut Hill, 3-0, Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
Philadelphia won the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19. The Lady Rams improve to 8-3 overall and remain unblemished in the conference with a 4-0 mark. Chestnut Hill is now 6-9 overall and 2-2 against the CACC.
Outside hitter Brittany Olson paced the Lady Rams with 14 digs and a match-high 13 kills. Middle hitter Chelsea Hughes recorded 10 kills, six block assists and hit .533 (10 kills-two errors-15 attempts). Outside hitter Danielle Carney contributed six kills.
Setter Heather Martin tallied 15 assists, while fellow setter Allyson Schillinger had 13. Libero Morgan McCarthy added eight digs.
Kaitlyn Schock had a team-high 11 kills for the Griffins. Alyssa Tasming recorded a match-best 26 assists. Deanna Bianchini finished the match with 15 digs, while Alexandra DePalma had 10.
Carney led the Lady Rams in the first set with four kills. Olson had six digs and three kills in the set. Philadelphia took advantage of seven Chestnut Hill errors to go on a 10-2 and open up a 22-12 advantage. The Griffins pulled within 23-19 before an Olson kill and a Chestnut Hill error ended the set.
Three Hughes kills during a 5-0 spurt allowed the Lady Rams break a five-all tie and take a 10-5 set-two lead. The margin reached eight during numerous points in the set.
Philadelphia jumped out to a 16-7 advantage in the third set. The Griffins managed to close the gap to 22-19 before an Olson kills ended the 12-6 spurt. Consecutive kills by Carney and Olson ended the match.
The Lady Rams head to Wilmington (Del.) for a battle for first place in the CACC South Division on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
