Box Score Olson, Carney lead Philadelphia to a 3-1 win over Kutztown in the season opener
PHILADELPHIA – Outside hitters Brittany Olson and Danielle Carney combined for 31 kills and 35 digs as the Philadelphia University women's volleyball team defeated visiting Kutztown, 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 16-25, 27-25), in a non-conference match Thursday night in the Gallagher Center.
Olson recorded a match-high 16 kills to go with a team-best 18 digs and three service aces. She was tremendous during the second set victory by going for seven kills, a hitting percentage of .636 (seven kills-zero errors-11 attacks), and seven digs.
Carney was just as strong with a 15-kill, 17-dig night. She hit .302 (15-2-43) during the match for the Lady Rams (1-0).
Setters Heather Martin and Allyson Schillinger each recorded double-doubles during the victory. Martin had 27 assists and 15 digs, while Schillinger—playing in her first collegiate match—had 21 assists and 16 digs.
Brittany Harman led the Golden Bears (0-1) with 13 kills and 23 digs. Harman had eight digs and six kills during Kutztown's third-set victory. Chelsea Braga added 11 kills and 19 digs. Dana Wright contributed 23 assists.
Philadelphia travels to New Jersey for its next match, its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener at Georgian Court on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
