Women's volleyball fends off Concordia (N.Y.) for a 3-2 CACC win

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Allison Manley recorded a career-high 15 kills to help the Philadelphia University women's volleyball team fight off host Concordia (N.Y.) for a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletic Center.

With the victory, the Lady Rams improve to 16-7 overall and 10-4 in the conference. The Clippers are now 4-15 overall and 4-9 against the CACC.

Philadelphia won the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16. The Clippers came back claim 25-22 wins in the third and fourth sets. The Lady Rams recovered win the final set 15-10.

Manley finished the match with an attack percentage .231 (15 kills-six errors-39 attacks), and 12 digs. Danielle Carney contributed 13 kills and 14 digs.

Heather Martin had 21 assists and 11 digs, while Allyson Schillinger posted 19 assists and 13 digs.  Morgan McCarthy recorded a match-high 23 digs.

Irina Impellittiere (14), Leina Braga (13), and Samantha Kurtzke (10) all finished with double-digit kills for the Clippers. Alicia Vogel recorded 52 assists, while Hillary Hoffman had 19 digs.

In set one, Philadelphia led from start to finish after jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The margin grew to 16-10 on a Concordia attack error that capped a 7-2 spurt.  Manley had five kills in the set.

Philadelphia controlled set two as it had an attack percentage of .375 (12-3-24), while forcing Concordia to hit -.073 (8-11-41). Manley and Chelsea Hughes each recorded three kills.

The Lady Rams led 3-0 to open set three. Concordia responded with four straight points to take a one-point lead. After Carney tied the set at four with a kill, the Clippers opened up a 12-8 lead. The Clippers' lead grew to a set-best 19-14. A Manley kills and two attack errors helped the Lady Rams get within 19-17. Concordia regained its five-point advantage after three straight kills.

The Clippers took the fourth set by snapping a 20-all tie with five of the final seven points.

Philadelphia never trailed in the final set, but faced a tough fight as Concordia tied the set seven times. With the set tied at seven, Concordia committed three straight attack errors to give Philadelphia a 10-7 lead.  Carney and Terra Ecker both had three kills.

The Lady Rams travel to the University of the Sciences for a CACC match on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
