Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team had its season-best four-match winning streak snapped by a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to visiting Wilmington (Del.) Wednesday night in the Gallagher Center.
The Lady Rams are now 14-7 overall and 8-4 in CACC play. Wilmington improves to 21-4 overall and 13-0 against the conference. The Wildcats won the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 26-24.
Outside hitter Brittany Olson recorded 10 of the Lady Rams' 27 kills in the match. She also had a team-best 14 digs. Outside hitter Danielle Carney had 12 digs and six kills.
Setter Heather Martin tallied 15 assists and 13 digs. Fellow setter Allyson Schillinger had eight assists and nine digs.
Libero Morgan McCarthy added 12 digs, while outside hitter Ellie Edgar had six total blocks (three solo, three assists), four digs, and three kills.
Nicole Wiechecki and Kaitlin DiGiacinto paced the Wildcats with 11 kills each. Wiechecki added 15 digs, while DiGiacinto had 11. Alex Siolos recorded a pair of match-highs with 23 assists and 17 digs.
Philadelphia jumped out to a 7-3 first set lead after going on a 7-1 run, which included two of Terra Ecker's three kills. The Wildcats came back with nine of the set's next 11 points to grab a 10-9 lead. Trailing 17-12, Philadelphia forced Wilmington four attack errors, including three blocks, during a 6-0 spurt to regain the lead at 18-17. With the set tied at 19, the Wildcats took control of the set by scoring the final six points.
The Lady Rams came out strong in the second set, cause three Wildcat attack errors, to get an early 5-2 advantage. Wilmington recovered to grab a five-point lead at 12-7. Three Wilmington attack errors and two Olson kills helped Philadelphia get back into the set and move back in front, 16-15. The Wildcats came back with four straight points to retake the lead and eventually close out the set.
A wild third set featured 11 ties, six lead changes, and a furious rally by the Lady Rams facing quadruple match point. Down 24-20, Martin came up with a service ace and Wilmington committed three errors to allow Philadelphia to tie the set at 24. The Wildcats closed out the match with kills by Kasey Couch and DiGiacinto.
Philadelphia hits the road for four straight matches starting Friday, Oct. 19 against CACC rival Holy Family at 7 p.m.
