Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
volleyball team (1-0) got a big win in their season-opener on
Wednesday night, defeating the Kutztown University Golden Bears 3-0
in straight sets.
"It's the first time we've ever beaten Kutztown, so this is a
big win for us," said Head Coach Mark Magarity.
A combined effort from several members of the Lady Rams squad
gave the team the win with scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.
Senior Lindsay Butler (DeKalb, IL/ DeKalb) had
a great night, recording eight kills along with a .615 attack
percentage. Junior Celena Rendon (San
Antonio, TX/ Tom C. Clark) led the team with nine kills, three digs
while junior Nicole Berkstresser (Bridgewater, NJ/
Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied eight kills and a .438 attack
percentage.
Defensively, junior Cindy Adams (Fleetwood, PA/
Fleetwood) had 16 digs while fellow classmate Natalie
Amodei (West Chester, PA/ Bishop Shanahan) had 14
for Phila U.
Sophomore setter Lauren Hoover (New Baltimore,
MI/ Anchor Bay) had 28 assists.
The Lady Rams will compete in the East Stroudsburg Tournament
this weekend, facing ESSU (4:00 p.m.) and St. Rose (6 p.m.) on
Friday, September 5th and Clarion (1:00 p.m.) and Queens
(3:00 p.m.) on Saturday, September 6th.
