Baseball Dominates Wilmington with Explosive Offense
NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (18-8, 10-2 CACC) battled and came out victorious in Sunday's double header against Wilmington University (16-11, 8-4 CACC).
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 13-2
- Wilmington took an early 1-0 lead on a throwing error by the catcher.
- Jefferson exploded for six runs, Thomas Matuszewski walked, and Justin Espinal singled to start the rally. Jay Kalieta singled in a run, and Justin Egner walked to load the bases. Joshua Lopez was hit by a pitch, bringing in a run. Javon Hernandez delivered the biggest hit of the inning, a 3-RBI double to left center, giving Jefferson a 6-1 lead.
- Jefferson adds four more runs in the fifth inning. Joshua Lopez reached on an error, and Thomas Matuszewski doubled to bring him in.
- Justin Espinal crushed a 2-run homer to right field, extending the lead to 9-2.
- A wild pitch and stolen base by Luis Beato Mora set up another run, making it 10-2.
- In the ninth inning, Jefferson capped the scoring with three more runs. Justin Egner was hit by a pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Joshua Lopez lined a 2-RBI single to right field.
Luis Beato Mora singled in another run to push the final score to 13-2.
