Women's Volleyball Opens Season at West Chester Invitational 


WEST CHESTER, PA – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball team (0-2) began their season at the West Chester University Invitational this Friday afternoon. They faced off against Charleston University (West Virginia) and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Rams fell to the Golden Eagles and Mountain Cats. 

GAME ONE: L, 1-3 vs Charleston 

  • Jefferson started out with a 7-2 lead over Charleston 

  • The Golden Eagles earned seven straight points to go ahead of the Rams 

  • Rams went up 7-3 to begin the second set 

  • Charleston and Jefferson went to trade runs with one another, eventually seeing the Golden Eagles taking the second set 25-91 

  • Charleston came back and took the third set 25-22, going 15-6 in the latter part of the set 

  • The Golden Eagles got out ahead early, building their lead to a 20-11 advantage 

  • The Rams fought back and went ahead 22-21 with kills by Liz Tanis, Even, and McKenna while Kristine Guenther had three straight service aces 

  • Charleston took four of the last five points, winning 25-23 and taking the series

GAME TWO: L, 0-3 vs Pitt-Johnstown 

  • Jefferson went ahead early 8-5 

  • Mountain Cats went and tied the game, trading points with the Rams 

  • Pitt-Johnstown retook the lead with an 8-1 run, holding their lead to take the first set 25-17 

  • The Mountain Cats got out to an 8-3 lead early in the second set 

  • Guenther and McKenna each had multiple kills to get the Rams as close as two points 

  • Pitt-Johnstown held their lead multiple times, eventually winning the second set 25-20 

  • Both teams traded the lead in the third, going back and forth 

  • Pitt-Johnstown went ahead 18-12 on a 7-3 run 

  • The Rams got within three, but the Mountain Cats held on to win the series with a 25-20 third set victory
