Women's Volleyball Drops CACC Opener 


PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball (3-7, 0-1) began Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition, where the Rams fell to Wilmington University (4-4, 1-0) 3-0 on Wednesday night. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

  • Wildcats jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first set 

  • The Rams scored five straight points, leading to a tie that would go back and forth through the set 

  • Jefferson scored six of the next seven points in the latter part of the match, going up 23-18 

  • Wilmington ended the set with an 8-1 run that gave them the first set 26-24 

  • Wilmington took leads in the second, 3-1 and 8-5, that Jefferson came back to either tie or take over themselves 

  • The Wildcats began to slowly pull away in the second, ending the set with a 11-5 run that gave them the 24-17 win and advantage heading into the third 

  • Jefferson looked to bounce back in the third, trailing 7-5, as they scored seven of the next eight points to be up 12-8 

  • Wilmington fought back, going on a six-point run to get ahead once more 17-15 

  • Both teams began to trade the lead, eventually going in favor of the Rams as they held match point 24-23 

  • The Wildcats were able to pull away and score the final three points, winning the set 26-24 and the series 3-0

Jefferson will look to bounce back as they stay in the Gallagher Center on Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m. when the Rams take on the University of New Haven in non-conference action.
