Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (13-15, 9-7 CACC) dropped a pair of games to the Wilmington Wildcats (25-12, 13-4 CACC) on a chilly Tuesday afternoon on campus. Jefferson fell in the first game, 9-0, before losing the second game, 6-4.
TUESDAY GAME ONE – L, 9-0
A solo home run was the only blemish through the first four innings as Wilmington had a slight 1-0 advantage in the first half of the game.
The Wildcats then scored three runs in the fifth with a two-run triple and RBI groundout, two runs in the sixth on an error and RBI single and three runs in the seventh on an RBI single and two-run single to go up 9-0.
Jefferson sophomore Madison Heno had a double to leadoff the sixth while sophomore Breck Urban, sophomore Jovanna Alfonsi and freshman Samantha Hurtado each managed singles.
Junior Stephanie Pepper (L, 7-5) pitched all 7.0 inning in the loss with five strikeouts.
TUESDAY GAME TWO – L, 6-4
Wilmington jumped out to a 4-0 after the top of the second but Jefferson was able to put up some early runs in game two to make it a challenge for the Wildcats.
Alfonis walked to lead off the second before junior Erin Maher delivered a one-out single. With two outs, Pepper launched a three-run home run over the left field fence to get the Rams back within one, 4-3.
The game stayed 4-3 until Wilmington added two in the fourth on an RBI double and RBI groundout.
Jefferson got one back in the bottom of the seventh via a Pepper RBI single up the middle to score Maher, 6-4.
Sophomore Katelyn Stys (L, 0-5) pitched 3.1 innings before being relieved by freshman Emily Bradley for the final 3.2 innings. Bradley allowed just three hits and no runs in her relief outing.
Maher and Pepper both went 2-for-3 in the game two while Pepper accounted for all four runs batted in.
Sophomore Emily Williams also recorded a single on the day.
