Alix Named NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year Finalist
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Thomas Jefferson University softball freshman
Delaney Alix keeps the accolades coming this week as she was named as a finalist for National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Freshman of the Year, as announced by the committee this afternoon.
Alix becomes the first Jefferson player to earn this distinction as her performance helped the Rams earn a 16-26 record with the impressive portion of that being a 13-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record that gave them a berth in the CACC Tournament where they hosted and won their quarterfinal match, had an upset victory over the host-team and No.1 seed University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, and nearly knocked off Wilmington University that is currently in the NCAA Division II Super East Regionals. She helped the Rams accomplish that with a 9-10 record, six of those victories came in conference play, as she held a 1.47 ERA and a .94 WHIP on the year.
The CACC Rookie of the Year had a perfect game for the Rams, the first since 2010 and the first seven-inning perfect game in school history. The Temecula, California native garnered awards on the conference level, being named to the CACC All-Conference First Team and CACC All-Tournament Team, as well as the regional level as she made the NFCA and Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Second Team respectively.
Alix will be in the running with seven other players from each region as they all look to take home this national award. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 20th.
