Alix on CSE All-American Freshman Team
FORT COLLINS, Co. – Thomas Jefferson University softball freshman
Delaney Alix puts another tally on her impressive collegiate debut as she was named on the College Sports Evaluation (CSE) All-American Freshman Team on Thursday afternoon.
In 2023, College Sports Evaluation (CSE) developed a method for selecting All-American honorees based solely on objective data, with the aim of recognizing athletes who deserve national attention—regardless of the school they attend or the conference in which they compete. The only factor considered in the All-American selections is in-game data, analyzed by CSE's Data & Analytics Team.
Alix is one of four freshman pitchers to be given this honor and holds the lowest aFIP of the selected first years with a 2.284. aFIP is Adjusted Fielding Independent Pitching. This stat considers only what the pitcher can control (Ks, HRs, BBs, & HBPs) and doesn't account for above or below-average defensive play behind the pitcher. The adjustment made to FIP considers the average offensive rating of their opponents. Offensive rating is determined by the average number of runs scored. If pitchers play against teams with an above-average offensive rating, their FIP would improve.
The CACC Rookie of the Year for the Rams is one of 51 Division II softball players to be given this recognition and one of 17 making the freshman team.
Alix helped the Rams make the CACC Tournament and nearly make it to the championship winner's bracket, taking down Caldwell in a home postseason matchup and upsetting No.1 seed Bridgeport in the Elimination Portion of the Bracket. The D2CCA Second Team pitcher went 9-10 this season, with a 6-1 record in her last seven starts. She holds 13 complete games in 23 appearances with 21 starts, giving up 99 hits, 51 runs with 28 being earned, and 26 walks while striking out 135 batters at the plate.
The Temecula, Cali. native had a perfect game for the Rams, the first since 2010 and the first seven-inning perfect game in school history. Those performances helped her be a finalist for the NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year as well as All-CACC First Team honors and NFCA All-East Region Second Team distinction.
