Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – David McTaggart (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) went 2-for-4 for the Philadelphia University baseball team in a 10-3 non-conference loss to Adelphi Tuesday afternoon on Bonomo Field.

After a scoreless first inning, Philadelphia got the offense going in the second as it put its first three runners on base. Kyle Marshall (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) pushed the first run of the game across, working a bases-loaded walk off of Ed Baram to force in Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School)—who doubled to lead off the inning. One batter later, Andres Valbuena (Miami, Fla./Doral Academy) ripped a single to center field to plate McTaggart and give the Rams (5-12) a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers (9-8) responded during their turn in the second with a one-out, two-run double off the bat Kory Cassara to bring home Eric Hassell and Robert Vani, who both singled, and tie the score at two.

Adelphi broke the game open one inning later as the Panthers pushed five runs across, four with two outs, to grab a 7-2 lead. The Panthers took the lead on a wild pitch that allowed Zack Levinson, who singled to start the inning, from third. Then with two away, Adelphi scored on an error, a Vani base hit, and a two-run Thomas Colombo double.

The Panthers tacked on two runs in the sixth on a Hassell home run, as part of a 3-for-5 day, and one more in the seventh on a throwing error.

Philadelphia got a run back in the top of the eighth on a Nick Goetz (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) double to left field. The hit scored Christopher Lorenzo (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), who reached on a fielder's choice on batter earlier.

Adelphi outhit Philadelphia 12-6 and was helped out by four Ram errors.

After the second inning Baram settled down to go seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits, and struck out four. Jonathan Gottschall (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) took the loss, striking out two in three innings. Gottschall was charged with seven runs, however, only three were earned.

Philadelphia returns to Alumni Field to face No. 11/15 East Stroudsburg in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m.
