Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia baseball team was swept by Dominican (N.Y.), 11-4 and 8-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon on Alumni Field.
GAME ONE
The Chargers (6-10, 4-2 CACC) took control of a 3-2 contest with a seven-run top of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 10-2. Dominican sent 11 batters to the plate during the inning and got four hits, including a two-out, two-RBI single by Jayson Gray Robert Alonso, Bryan McGuire, and Donald Crispyn all knocked in one each.
Philadelphia (9-12, 3-9 CACC) got two runs back on one swing of the back in the home half of the eighth. After Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) walked to start the inning, John Brocious (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton) slugged a home run to left center field, his third of the season, to bring the Rams within six (10-4).
William Seymour ended the scoring with a single in the ninth to plate Robert Alonso, who doubled to start the inning.
Dominican's Anthony Pastrana struck out nine over seven innings to earn the win. He allowed four runs on three hits. Thomas Musso added two scoreless innings of relief.
Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) absorbed the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits and fanning five in 7.1 innings.
Brocious led the Philadelphia offense with two hits in four at-bats and scored twice. Gray and Mark Vargas recorded two hits for the Chargers.
Crispyn gave Dominican a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out double. Philadelphia answered with a Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) RBI groundout in the third and a Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School) RBI single in the fourth to tie the score.
The Chargers reclaimed the lead in the seventh when Vargas drove in William Seymour with a double to left center.
GAME TWO
The Chargers did all of their scoring early in the game, plating one run in the second and seven in the third. The run support was enough for Peter Martinez who struck out eight over eight innings and gave up just four hits to earn the win.
After scoring on an error in the second, Dominican had 12 players hit in the seven-run third. With the bases loaded, Seymour brought home two runs with a double in the right field corner. Leo Bravo followed the double with a two-run single to left to make the score 5-0.
Brendan Woodruff and Vargas added RBI singles, and Crispyn drove in a run with a groundout.
Philadelphia finished the game with five hits, two by Robbie Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Miami-Sunset). Bravo went 4-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice.
David Lerro (Secane, Pa./Upper Darby) struck out four over three innings in a losing effort.
Philadelphia hosts East Stroudsburg in a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
