GAME ONE
Kutztown (14-12) grabbed the early advantage with a RBI single by Travis Kreitz and a Ricky Gorrell sacrifice fly in consecutive at bats to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Philadelphia (12-15) answered right back with a single run in the first and three in the second to move ahead 4-2. After McCormick doubled to open the first, Gonzalez delivered a double to left field to plate McCormick for the team's first run. Brandon Quaranta (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Adington) led off the second with a solo homer to left center to knot the score up at two. With Desmond Drummond (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) on third and Fernando Garza (Laredo, Texas/Alexander) on second, David McTaggart (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), who was 3-for-3 in the game, roped a double to left center to bring both runners home to give the Rams the lead.
The Golden Bears cut the Rams' advantage in half with a run in the fourth and took an 8-4 lead, scoring five times in the fifth. Drew DeShong recorded a two-run single and Brady McNab hit a two-run home with two down in the fifth.
In the seventh, the Rams pushed two runs across, one on a Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School) double and the other on a double play.
Philadelphia outhit Kutztown 11-10. Quaranta and Gonzalez finished with two hits each. Kreitz was 3-for-5 for Kutztown, while McNab and Brandon Martinez hit safely twice.
Eric Hartranft was the winning pitcher with two scoreless innings of relief, including two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Philadelphia stormed out of the gates in a big way, scoring four times in each of the first two innings to lay claim to an 8-0 lead. With McCormick opening the frame getting hit by a pitch and Gonzalez following with a single, Brocious came through with a three-run homer to left, his fourth of the year, for the first three runs of the game. Karcanes added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to plate Wells for the fourth run.
In the second, Madnick and McCormick hit back-to-back singles and Gonzalez walked to load the bases for Brocious. Brocious once again delivered a big hit with a double to left center to bring all three runners home to make the score 7-0. Brocious scored the eighth run on an error.
The lead remained 8-0 until the fourth when Kutztown plated a pair of runs, on a wild pitch and a Brandon Cholish single. Kreitz trimmed the Philadelphia lead to 8-6 with a three-run homer in the fifth and getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth.
Philadelphia tacked on two insurance runs in the last of the sixth thanks to a Garza single and a McTaggart single to extend the lead back to four (10-6) and put the game out of reach.
Lerro earned his second win of the season, going 5.2 innings and striking out eight. He allowed six runs on seven hits. Steve Hatala (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) went the final 1.1 innings to record his second save of 2015.
