Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Fernando Garza (Laredo, Texas/Alexander) had five hits each and Stephen Dickerson (Columbus, Ohio/Danbury) and Abraham Almonte (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) both turned in strong starts as the Philadelphia University baseball team earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep of the University of the Sciences, 8-2 and 6-1, Saturday afternoon on Alumni Field.

GAME ONE
Dickerson scattered 10 hits and struck out two batters to earn the complete game victory.

The Philadelphia (11-14, 5-9 CACC) offense, led by two hits each from John Brocious (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton), McCormick, and Garza, helped Dickerson out by scoring their eight runs in the opening four innings.

The Rams wasted little time getting on the board, scoring four times in the home half of the first inning. Brocious was responsible for the first run of the afternoon to plate McCormick, who singled to open the frame. Two batters later, Brocious came home as Brandon Quaranta (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Adington) beat out a double-play ball to give the inning going and give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. Garza doubled the advantage to 4-0 with a two-out, two-run double.

After a scoreless second, Philadelphia successfully pulled off a double steal in the third with Quaranta going to second and Brocious scoring the team's fifth run.

Philadelphia plated three more runs in the fourth. McCormick delivered a one-out single to right for the sixth run and the final two runs scored on a dropped fly ball with two away.

The Devils (2-20, 2-10 CACC) broke the shutout with a seventh-inning single by Derek DeMaria and scored again in the ninth on a T.J. Dezzi base hit.

Philadelphia outhit USciences 11-10. DeMaria and Dezzi posted two hits a piece for the visitors.

C.J. Hertz gave up eight runs, six earned, on nine hits and fanned four over four innings in a losing effort.

GAME TWO
McCormick had three of the Rams' 10 hits and scored twice, while Desmond Drummond (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) and Garza added two each.

On the mound, Almonte turned in eight solid innings of one-run, five-hit ball, including five strikeouts, to earn the win.

The nightcap was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) came through with a ground out to bring Drummond, who doubled and went to third on a wild pitch, home for the game's first run.

The teams traded a single run in the fifth to keep the Rams in front by one, 2-1. The Devils scored on a Matt Miniconzi single to tie the game and the Rams reclaimed the lead when Hector Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Quaranta tacked on an insurance run with a base hit to left that scored McCormick from third. Philadelphia scored three more times in the eighth, once on a David McTaggart (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) single and two times on a misplayed ground ball by the Devils' shortstop.

Dezzi had two of USciences' five hits.

Chris Geraci suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. Geraci recorded six strikeouts.

Philadelphia hosts Kutztown in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 12 at noon.
