Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Fernando Garza (Laredo, Texas/Alexander) had a game to remember as he fanned a school-record 14 batters in six innings and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader against Le Moyne that resulted in a 4-0 win. The Dolphins took the first game 6-0.
In the second game, Philadelphia (4-9) wasted no time getting Garza run support, plating two runs to take the early lead. Senior first baseman Jordan Force (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) drew a one-out walk and advanced to third when sophomore shortstop Hector Gonzalez (Laredo, Texas/United) doubled to right field. Force came home on a wild pitch thrown by Ben Walsh for the game's first run.
After a walk from junior right fielder Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), Garza helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to bring home Gonzalez.
Garza opened the home half of the fourth with a deep double to center field and advanced to third on a groundout by senior Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner). Freshman catcher John Brocious (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton), the next batter, didn't keep Garza waiting as third long as he lofted a ball to right field to bring Garza home for the game's third run.
In the sixth, Garza knocked in Gonzalez from third with a single to left center for the final run of the game. Gonzalez, who went 2-for-2 in the game, started the inning with a single and successfully stole second and third base.
On the mound, Garza (2-0) did not walk a batter and allowed just three hits. He retired 13 straight hitters from the second through the sixth inning.
Walsh took the loss (0-2) as he allowed three runs on four hits and struck out six in five innings.
Brett Charbonneau had two of the three Le Moyne (5-8) hits.
In the first game, the Dolphins' Pat Wright singlehandedly got Le Moyne out to a 4-0 lead in his first two at-bats.
In the top of the first, Wright roped a two-out double off the left field fence that plated Dylan Swetman and put the visitors ahead 1-0. Wright came back to the plate in the third and hit a three-run home run to left to extend the gap to 4-0.
Le Moyne added two more runs in the sixth on a Charbonneau sacrifice fly and a Donato DiNorcia double.
The Dolphins outhit the Rams in the opening game 7-5.
Force led Philadelphia with two hits in three at-bats.
Damian Powers earned the complete-game shutout (2-0) as he fanned six batters. Sophomore Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) suffered the loss (0-3), giving up four runs on five hits and recording two strikeouts in four innings.
