Baseball secures tournament home game with sweep of Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University baseball team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Post, 8-3 and 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

With the two wins, the Rams improve to 19-25-1 overall, 12-7 in the CACC, and have secured a top-four seed and a home game in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament.

In the opening game, sophomore outfielder Ken McCormick (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) went 3-for-5 including a two-run home run. McCormick also picked up his 100th career hit.

Freshman starting pitcher Casey O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was the winning pitcher.

In the second game, Philadelphia scored the game's lone run in the top of the eighth inning. Junior first baseman Jordan Force (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) got the rally started with a walk. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman Michael Treglia (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) and moved to third when freshman third baseman Axel Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/The Perkioment School) singled. Junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) successfully executed a safety bunt to plate Force.

Senior starting pitcher Russell Trojan threw eight shutout innings to get the victory. Freshman closer Luke Floer (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) went the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

Philadelphia travels to Kutztown for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, April 30 at 2 p.m.
