Box Score 2 MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore right fielder Ryan Shellock (Blackwood, N.J./Triton) went 2-for-3 at the plate including a two-run home run and freshman pitcher Casey O'Donnell (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) fanned six over 6.2 innings to help the Philadelphia University baseball salvage a split of its non-conference doubleheader against Millersville with a 5-3 game two victory. Millersville took game one 7-1.
Shellock's second home run of the season came in the top of the sixth inning with two outs and snapped a 1-1 tie. The homer also brought home freshman third baseman Robbie Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Sunset) who was hit by a pitch in the previous at-bat.
Junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School)) was responsible for adding a pair of insurance runs for Philadelphia (2-5-1) in the top of the seventh. Yoshiyama capped a 3-for-4 game with a RBI double down the right field line to make the score 4-1. He scored the Rams' fifth run when he came home from third on a wild pitch.
Millersville (10-4) closed the gap to 5-3 with a two-out, two-run single from Dan Johnson.
O'Donnell scattered six hits while allowing three runs to earn his second win of the season (2-1). He found his stride in the third inning as he would sit down 18 of the next 20 batters who came to the plate. Freshman Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) got the final out to record his first career save.
Evan King, Zach Stone, and Johnson had two hits each for Millersville. Starting pitcher Chris Murphy went 6.1 innings, gave up seven hits, and struck out six.
In the first game, Philadelphia got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI groundout from junior center fielder Rick Reigner (Havertown, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) to close the gap to 4-1.
Sophomore shortstop Hunter Greenwood (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett), junior catcher TJ Burgmann (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College HS) and freshman second baseman Michael Treglia (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) all had one hit for the Rams.
Millersville plated a pair of runs in the home half of the first inning on a single by Stone and a sacrifice fly from Jeff Heisey. The Marauders tacked on two more runs in the third on a Tyler McDonald RBI single and David Pine groundout.
Millersville ended the scoring with three runs in the fifth.
The Marauders' Tim Mayza tossed a complete game and fanned eight batters. He retired the first 10 batters he faced to open the game.
Senior pitcher Russell Trojan (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) allowed seven runs on 11 hits in five innings for Philadelphia.
The Rams and Marauders close out their three-game weekend series with a contest at Alumni Field on Saturday, March 10 at noon.
