Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Three Rams recorded two hits as the Philadelphia University baseball team dropped the rubber game of its three-game series to Armstrong Atlantic, 7-4, on Friday afternoon at Pirate Field.
Trailing 1-0 after giving up a run in the first, Philadelphia (3-11-1) answered with two runs in the top half of the second inning to grab the lead. With two runners on and one out, junior third baseman Chris Pelaez (Miami, Fla./Sunset) stroked a single to left to plate senior first baseman Jeff Bohus (Cherry Hill, Cherry Hill E.) and tie the game. Junior left fielder Shane Yoshiyama (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School), the next batter, delivered the go-ahead run with a RBI single.
Armstrong (13-7) tied the game in the bottom of the second on a run-producing base hit by Cody Sherlin, and then took the lead one inning later when Clayton Miller brought in two runs on a base hit.
The Pirates added an insurance run in the fifth to make the score 5-2.
The Rams pulled within one run as they would plate two runs in the top of the sixth. Junior second baseman John Sczepanski (Lafayette Hill, Pa./La Salle College HS) doubled home Bohus, who started the inning by tripling to right. After Sczepanski moved to third on Pelaez's second single of the game, Yoshiyama, who finished the game 2-for-3, executed a successful safety squeeze to bring Sczepanski home.
Armstrong tacked on single runs in the sixth and eighth.
The Pirates' Ethan Bader earned the win as he went six innings, gave up four runs on nine hits, and struck out two. Mitchell Dolan allowed just one walk over the final three innings to record the save.
Freshman starter Cory Dean () suffered the loss for the Rams by giving up five runs—four earned—on 10 hits in 4.1 innings. Dean fanned four.
The Rams head back to North Carolina to wrap-up its spring break trip with a double-header at Barton on Saturday, March 16 at noon.
