Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore defender Angelo Dambalas scored in the 67th minute to help push the Philadelphia University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Chestnut Hill in the quarterfinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Monday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
The third-seeded Rams improve to 11-7-1 overall and advance to the semifinal round where they will meet second seed Dominican—a 3-1 winner over Holy Family—on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wilmington University Sports Complex in Wilmington, Del. Philadelphia is in the semifinal round for the first time since 2010.
In the regular season, Dominican defeated Philadelphia 1-0 on Sept. 14 in Orangeburg, N.Y.
Chestnut Hill, the tournament's sixth seed, ends its season at 7-10-2.
Dambalas, who was named to the All-CACC first team earlier in the day, got his right foot on a corner kick taken by freshman midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) inside the six-yard box and deposited it into the left side of the Griffin goal. It was Dambalas' fourth goal of the season, third game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schenectady, N.Y./Duanesburg) did his part, stopping three Chestnut Hill shots, including a diving save to stop Charles O'Connell in the 87th minute to preserve the clean sheet and the victory.
James Jackson stopped three shots for the Griffins. Philadelphia outshot Chestnut Hill 15-10, 10-5 in the second half.
