Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NORRISTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University baseball team was swept by Chestnut Hill College in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opening doubleheader on Tuesday at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. The scores were 8-3 in game one and 1-0 in game two.

Philadelphia (5-17, 0-2 CACC) jumped out to an early lead in game own with a two-run single by first baseman Jordan Force in the second inning.

Chestnut Hill (10-8, 3-1 CACC) came back to tie the score at two with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Left fielder Ken McCormick put the Rams back in front with a single to plate second baseman Kyle DeGennaro, who singled and stole second back, in the fifth.

After tying the game up at three in the fifth, the Griffins took control of the game in the sixth inning by taking advantage of three walks—one with the bases loaded, two errors, and one hit batter to score five times.

Seven different Rams had one hit in the game. Chestnut Hill first baseman Joe Mullin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Second baseman Jesse Daywalt and right fielder Mike McLaughlin also had two hits.

John Flack was the winning pitcher after tossing four innings of scoreless relief. He struck out two batters and gave up just one hit.

Dave Lerro suffered the loss after allowing seven runs, two earned, on seven hits in five innings. Lerro fanned four. Russell Trojan threw three innings of no-hit ball, allowing one unearned run and striking out two.

Griffins' shortstop Joe Crane drove in game two's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to plate Daywalt.

Philadelphia had five hits in the nightcap, led by catcher TJ Burgmann who went 2-for-4. Left fielder Alex Latchum and designated hitter Ray Puskar each had two of Chestnut Hill's nine hits.

Seamus Finnegan was the winner after scattering five hits in seven innings and striking out four. Crane went from shortstop to pitcher in the eighth and earned the save. He fanned one in 1.2 innings of relief.

Sawyer Brown was the hard-luck loser after striking out five in a complete-game effort.

Philadelphia travels to Wilmington (Del.) for a CACC contest on Thursday, March 22 at 3 p.m.
