Box Score 2 Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia University baseball team (5-34, 3-17 CACC) closed the 2011 season by splitting their home double-header against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College (16-21, 10-10 CACC). The Rams took game one 4-3 ending the Griffins chances of advancing to the CACC playoffs. Game two ended in favor of CHC, 10-6. Senior shortstop Anthony DiFrancesco hit a solo home run in game one then followed up in game two with a three run shot over the left field fence.
In game one, PhilaU got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from freshman centerfielder Rick Reigner to score DiFrancesco from third who earlier singled. After CHC tied the score 1-1 with a homer from Kochu, back to back homeruns were hit, first by DiFrancesco followed by sophomore third baseman Jordan Force. In the sixth, sophomore second baseman Kevin Giambri smacked a two base hit through the right side. Next up, rookie catcher TJ Burgmann doubled to bring Giambri home.
The Griffins would make a last ditch effort in the top of the ninth with a homer by Santoro with two outs to make it 4-3. The last batter would be retired to give senior pitcher Kevin McGovern the win. He finishes his last season on the mound for PhilaU with a record of 3-5.
Game two, scored as a non-conference contest, saw the Rams down by as much as seven runs. Their first score of the game would come from a three-run homer in the third off the bat of DiFrancesco. Junior right fielder Joe Thayres who singled and left fielder John Sczepanski who reached on a fielder's choice would each score to make it 3-7.
CHC would answer back in the fourth as Knipe hit his second consecutive homerun of the game. An RBI single from Weber and a sac hit RBI from DiMonte would stretch their lead to 3-10.
The Rams still had some steam left heading into the seventh. With the bases loaded from three consecutive walks, DiFrancesco took one for the team to walk in Giambri. Reigner stepped up with a big hit to center to score both senior Jared Farbman and Thayres. The late game rally would end short with the final score of 10-6.
CHC's Webber took the win with the save going to Lauber.
Also making their final collegiate appearances in the double-header were seniors Jared Farbman and Anthony DiFrancesco. DiFrancesco went 4–6 on the day with two home runs, 5 RBIs and a walk. Farbman went 1-1 with a walk.
The Rams finish the season with a final record of 5-34 with a CACC record of 3-17.
