Box Score 2 Nyack, NY- Philadelphia University baseball (4-32, 2-17 CACC) dropped their CACC doubleheader against the Nyack Warriors (3-35, 3-17 CACC) Saturday night. In game two, PhilaU led off with atwo two base hit from senior shortstop Anthony DiFrancesco who later scored from an RBI single from Rick Reigner.
In game one, the Rams were held scoreless by the pitching efforts of NC's Earlie and Richardson. Sophomore outfileder Jordan Force and Reigner each went 2-4 at the plate. The Warriors would earn only one hit over the Rams (NC 8 – PU 7). PhilaU was unable to move past NC's defense as 11 runners would be left on base during the game.
Pitching for the Rams was senior Jared Farbman who recorded four strikeouts over eight innings of play.
PhilaU controlled much of game two, which was played well into the night. Leading off for the Rams was DiFrancesco who took second base on his first hit. With a fielder's choice off a ground ball from Force, DiFrancesco advanced to third. Reigner would then get the RBI as DiFrancesco was able to score on his hit.
Later in the fourth, freshman catcher TJ Burgmann would score on an NC error to bring the game to 2-0. The Warriors got on the board the following inning as they scored on a RBI single. More luck would come PhilaU's way as a passed ball from Nyack would allow DiFrancesco to advance from second to third while junior utility Joe Thayres would come home to score. The score was 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
The seventh would prove to be a long inning in the field for PhilaU as a series of hits and errors would allow four Warrior batters to score while leaving an additional three stranded. The eighth inning would bring no mercy as well with three more runs crossing the plate for NC including a two RBI single off Calabrese. The ninth would see three PhilaU batters retired to end the game.
PhilaU was out hit by Nyack 13-5. Crespo claimed the win for Nyack while Russell Trojan took the loss for PhilaU.
PhilaU baseball returns home Sunday (5/1) for a double header against Washington Adventist starting at 12:00 p.m. The non conference contest will feature two seven-inning games.
