Box Score 2 Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University baseball team (10-19, 8-9 CACC) split their
games today (4/24) against Felician College. The team lost
the first game 6-1 and came back swinging in the second game
winning 10-5.
The day started by honoring the six graduating senior on the
team. They were outfielder Mike Anderson,
short-stop Tyler Mentzer, infielder Joe
DiMezza, pitcher Eric Miele, pitcher
Brian Rousseau, and first baseman Rob
Fisher.
In the first game junior pitcher Kevin McGovern
(Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) took the mound for the Rams
pitching all nine innings. He registered nine strike outs in
the game.
Offensively the team matched Felician with hits, 11, but was not
able to score. The team was scoreless going into the nine
inning until sophomore second baseman Dan Hennigan
(Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) had a sacrifice fly to center
field that brought in freshman pinch runner Kevin
Giambri (Laurel Springs, NJ/Highland Regional).
In the second game senior pitcher Brian
Rousseau (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) started the game at the
mound, with junior Jared Farbman (Philadelphia,
PA/Central) relieving him in the sixth inning. Senior
Eric Miele (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick)
finishing the last two innings, seeing only six at bat.
Farbman received the win.
The Rams offensively started off with a two run homer from
senior short-stop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg,
PA/Delone Catholic).
In the top of the sixth the Golden Falcons scored four runs to
make it a 4-2 game. But the Rams answer back scoring seven
runs in the bottom. The rally was started by Mentzer who had
a triple to center field that brought in freshman outfielder
Mike Ross (Newtown Square, PA/Newtown Square).
Another big hit came from Hennigan who singled to centerfield bring
in two runs, making it 9-4.
Both teams had one run in the seventh. Scoring for the
Rams was Mentzer after junior third baseman Anthony
DiFrancesco (Landenberg, PA/Salesianum) singled to second
base, making the final score 10-5.
The team will face Kutztown University away for a 3:00 p.m.
start on 4/26.
