Baseball Beats CHC 6-4, Game 2 Suspended Due to Darkness

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (4-14, 0, 1-1 CACC) took the first game of the day 6-4 and was trailing 8-4 in game two which was suspended due to darkness in the seventh inning vs. the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (6-13, 1-3 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

In the first game of the double header, the Rams took an early 3-1 lead after putting up three runs in second inning. Two runs scored on  senior catcher Jason Hartley's (Levittown, PA/ Neshaminy) double and he eventually scored on a single by senior outfielder Dan Ellmer (Trenton, NJ/ Nottingham). The Griffins tied it in the top of the 7th inning- scoring two runs on three base hits, but PhilaU retook the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning on a double by junior shortstop Tyler Mentzer (Gettysburg, PA/ Delone Catholic) and a single by junior outfielder Mike Anderson (Waldwick, NJ/ Waldwick).

Leading the way in at the plate for the Rams were Menter (2-4, 1 RBI) and Ellmer (3-4, 1 RBI. 

Junior pitcher Brian Rousseau (Wantagh, NY/ Wantagh) picked up the win for the Rams after throwing 2.2 innings in relief, surrendering one hit and striking out six. Freshman hurler Jared Farbman (Philadelphia, PA/ Central) threw six innings and gave up six hits- striking out four Griffin hitters.

In the second half of the double header, the Griffins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by drawing walks and getting clutch hits with runners in scoring position.

The Rams responded with their own three-run inning in the 4th to tie it 3-3, but  the Griffins retook the lead in the top of the 5th inning on homeruns by Mike Knipe and Andrew Donfry. CHC added three more runs in the 6th inning on a pair of extra base hits to lead 8-3, but PhilaU would score one more before the game was ended due to darkness. The Rams took the 8-4 loss.
