Box Score The Philadelphia University baseball team had their season come
to a close today after dropping a 7-1 decision to Dominican College in the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The
game was played at Wilson Field on the campus of Wilmington
University in New Castle, Del.
The Rams finish the 2008 season 22-22 overall, after capturing a
share of the CACC regular season title with a 19-8 conference
record. It was their best performance since the 1999
campaign, and with a few breaks in today's earlier game with
Caldwell, the Rams easily could be preparing for a league title
opportunity tomorrow and a chance to advance to the NCAA Division
II East Regional next weekend.
Meanwhile, the Chargers and Cougars meet tomorrow to decide the
CACC Championship, with the winner earning the aforementioned berth
in the NCAA Championship Tournament. Caldwell (31-17), by
virtue of going 2-0 thus far, needs to beat Dominican (28-24) just
once to earn the championship, while the Chargers will have to beat
Caldwell twice to claim the title.
The Rams never got things going in today's matchup against
Dominican, as the game was scoreless through two innings
before the Chargers got on the board with two runs in the top of
the third off of sophomore southpaw Brian
Rousseau. They added three more in the fifth,
meanwhile right-hander Tom Kahl held the Rams at
bay for Dominican, as the freshman went the distance, scattering
six hits, striking out seven, walking only two and giving up just
the one earned run. The Rams grounded out 15 times in today's
elimination game.
The only Philadelphia University run was plated in the eighth
when senior JungMin Lee came home on a single from
sophomore Tyler Mentzer.
