Box Score 2 Dominican College surrendered just four runs in two games on
Saturday afternoon, sweeping visiting Philadelphia University by
scores of 4-2
and 10-2 in a
key conference doubleheader. The Rams, who won the series
opener by a 14-13 margin on Friday at home , fall to 11-18 overall
and 10-6 in the Central Collegiate Athletic Conference (CACC) with
the pair of setbacks in Orangeburg, N.Y.
In the first game of the evening, the Chargers broke a scoreless
tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The
big blow came off the bat of catcher Robert Iglesais, who drove in
a pair of runs with a single. Head Coach Mark Heineman's team
refused to go quietly as the Rams plated a pair of runs in the top
of the sixth inning to pull within 3-2 when sophomore second
baseman Tyler Mentzer drove in senior JungMin Lee and older brother
Zach Mentzer with a two-run triple. Dominican , however,
added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth in taking the
first contest.
In the second game, the Chargers scored once in the bottom of
the first inning, but the Rams answered with a pair of runs in the
top of the second. Junior outfielder Devin Conroy (pictured)
drove in both runs for Philadelphia University with a double, but
that was the extent of the Rams' offense for the game.
Dominican went on to score in each of the next four innings
including four in the bottom of the fifth to assume control.
Heineman and his team will be back in action on Sunday, April
20th, traveling to Widener University for a non-league battle with
the Pride in Chester, Pa.
