Rams Pound Out 24 Hits, Take 21-3 Win from Devils at Home

Box Score

Head Coach Mark Heineman saw his Philadelphia University baseball team explode for a season-high 24 hits on Wednesday afternoon as the Rams defeated the University of the Sciences by a 21-3 margin at Alumni Field.  The victory improves the Rams to 10-16 overall and 9-4 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) entering a key conference weekend with Dominican College.

The Rams got things started quickly, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning.  Sophomore first baseman Mike Anderson capped the flurry with a two-run single that plated juniors Rob Fisher and Kyle Noonan.  Anderson also provided the big hit in the bottom of the second innning as well, this time a two-run double as the Rams extended their lead to 9-0.  In the bottom of the fourth inning, Philadelphia University scored six more runs as Noonan and senior shortstop Zach Mentzer drove in two runs apiece and the Rams never looked back.

Anderson and senior third baseman Jason Hartley finished the contest with three hits apiece as did Mentzer, who scored twice and drove in three runs.  Freshman outfielder Matt Fischer (pictured) connected on his first career homerun for Heineman while fellow freshman Jared Farbman improved to a perfect 4-0 on the mound as the righthander allowed just one unearned run in 5 2/3 innings of work.

The Rams will host Dominican on Friday, April 18th, before squaring off against the Chargers on the road in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 19th.
