Baseball Holds off Late Eagles Comeback to Earn CACC Victory
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (8-11, 7-5) hosted Post University (13-15, 7-5) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday. The Rams held off a late Eagles comeback to win 8-7.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagles jumped to an early 2-0 lead from a Hunter Keller homerun. Jay Salsbery put a run on the board with an RBI single to the right field. Manny Contreras got it back to a two-score contest with a Manny Contreras double to left field
- Holub went to get the Rams back in the game with a fielder's choice RBI in the third inning. He went to put another run in the fifth with a double to right center field to tie it at 3-3 in the fifth. Jefferson went to score with a RBI single to second base by Vincent Favata
- The Eagles got back ahead as a RBI double and a fielder's choice in the sixth and seventh made it 5-4. The Rams went to put up four runs in the seventh as Tripp Capers had a two-RBI double to left center. He and Favata got to homeplate off wild pitches and made it 8-5
- Post had one last opportunity to take the lead as a single to the left field, followed by an error, got two Eagles onto homeplate with the tying run on third and the leading run on second with no outs. The Rams got two strikeouts and a flyout to right field to secure the win
- Patrick Karbach started the game for Jefferson and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and four runs with seven strikeouts. Aiden Barbour pitched 0.2 innings in relief. Cole Roschel gets the win as he pitched 2.0 innings in the game and Will Hoffman secures the saves
