Men's Basketball Thwarted by Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Trailing in most of the second half, Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball (13-10, 9-7) earned the lead late in the second half, but a pair of free throws and a jumper gave the lead to Holy Family University (12-11, 6-9) with 1:12 left to go in the game. Neither team were able to score in those final 78 seconds as the Rams fell 78-76 to the Tigers in Wednesday evening Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- First half had Holy Family outshoot Jefferson in shooting percentage 57.69% to 51.72% with the Tigers going 7-of-14 from beyond the arc
- The Rams competed early on and built themselves an eight-point lead with six minutes remaining in the first half. A 19-7 run for the Tigers put Jefferson down by four at the break
- Second half had the Rams put pace early on, taking the lead at 18:27 off an Isaiah Thomas-McClain three-pointer. Both teams would go back and forth, changing the tide and lead often
- After going through most of the game, Jefferson hit a layup to go up 76-74 with 2:57 to go. The Tigers responded with two made free throws and a jumper to get ahead by two with 1:12 in the contest. Two turnovers, a missed three pointer, and a failed tipin layup attempt ultimately led to the Rams falling 76-74 to Holy Family
- Jahmare Memphis put up a career-high 27 points as he played all 40 minutes for Jefferson. Alex Bates IV put up 18 points on the night. Sean Fullerton added seven off the bench
- Omarion Jett led the Tigers with 20 points with Matt Gardler and Di'Andre Howell-South following behind as they scored 14 and 13 points respectively
