No.17 Baseball Closes Season in NCAA East Regional


CENTER VALLEY, PA – No.17 nationally-ranked Thomas Jefferson University baseball (40-17) completed their season as they played in the fifth game of the NCAA East Regional and final match in the best-of-three series against Franklin Pierce University (34-20) on Sunday afternoon. The Rams did not get their momentum in the contest as they fell in their final contest of the season 10-2 to the Ravens, who now advance to the Super Regional. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

  • The Ravens jumped out to another quick start as they have the past two games against the Rams with Franklin Pierce scoring six runs in the second inning by way of a two singles through the right side, a wild pitch score, and a three-run homerun that had Jefferson down 6-0 early on 

  • Another score for the Ravens made it 7-0 before Thomas Matuszewski got Jefferson on the board as his solo homerun to center field just passed the fence in the fourth 

  • Franklin Pierce added two more homeruns in the sixth and ninth added to their lead. Luis Beato Mora single to left field in the sixth got another run on for Jefferson but was unable to get them back in the game 

  • The Rams left six runners on base through the game while the Ravens hit three of their seven homeruns in today's contest 

  • Jefferson concludes their season with the best record in school history, the only team in the program with 40 wins, a CACC Player and Rookie of the Year, multiple All-Region accolades plus more to come this year, and hosted a regional tournament as a No.1 seed 

  • Gabe Silva took the loss today as he pitched four innings, giving up six hits with seven runs and three walks while striking out three batters. Tyler Behm came in relief for four innings as he allowed two hits and two runs with five batters struck out during his time on the mound. AJ Lefton and Ricky Harrison both pitched in the ninth inning for Jefferson
