PHILADELPHIA – No.24 nationally-ranked Thomas Jefferson University baseball (33-13, 25-7) went in their final two doubleheaders against Chestnut Hill College (25-20, 20-14). Jefferson split with Chestnut Hill on Saturday, winning game one 11-8 and falling in game two 7-3. The Rams secured their sweep of the Griffins on Sunday, winning 9-1 in game one and 23-3 in game two as Jefferson honored their seniors on Senior Day.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 11-8
  • Javon Hernandez opened the scoring with a two-run homerun in the first inning for an early lead, but Chestnut Hill scored three in the bottom of the same inning
  • Jefferson went ahead by way of a Justin Egner two-run single to the left field. They added to their lead with Joshua Lopez one-run single up the middle and a walk with the bases loaded to be up 6-3
  • The Griffins tied it in the fourth inning to be even 6-6. Luis Beato Mora gave them the lead back in the fifth as a double down the left line got them the lead, which they would never give up after that
  • Hernandez put another run with a single to the right side while Thomas Matuszewski finished it up with a two-run homerun to center field. Hernandez added another RBI in the seventh on a single to the left side.
  • Danny Kerr earns the win with seven innings pitched, allowing 11 hits and 8 runs while striking out 6 batters. AJ Lefton finished the final two innings, only giving up a walk with three strikeouts under his belt

  • Hernandez hit another homerun, this time solo, to get Jefferson up. Chestnut Hill got the lead back in the bottom of the inning and never relinquished it. A throwing error and a single turned it to a 4-1 game for the Griffins
  • Two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth had Jefferson trail 7-1. Matuszewski hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning, but the Rams could not comeback as they fell 7-3
  • Albert Bobadilla pitched all six innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs, only five earned, with five strikeouts

GAME THREE: W, 9-1
  • The first game on Sunday for Jefferson, they had an even game for the first three innings. Lopez brought the runs in as a two-run homerun in the fourth made it 2-0
  • A throwing error in the third allowed a score while a Matuszewski triple to the right and Lopez sacrifice flyout turned it to a 5-0
  • The Griffins scored in the eighth, but Justin Egner's one-run single to the left side and a Matuszewski three-run single to first base concluded the game with a 9-1 win
  • Tyler Behm got the win, pitching seven innings as he allowed three hits with seven strikeouts. Aiden Barbour

  • Game four was all Rams, as they scored 18 runs in four innings. Hernandez hit a one run double down the left line. With the bases loaded, Lopez nailed a grand-slam to the left field, making it 5-0
  • Matuszewski had a one-run single and Justin Espinal had a three run homerun as it was 9-0 after two innings
  • Jefferson put up nine runs in the fourth with two sacrifice flyouts by Julio Frometa Gomez and Jordan Tiburcio, a Gabe Silva single up the middle, a Matuszewski double, and another Lopez homerun
  • Matt Vita's single up the middle garnered two more in the fifth with Matuszewski adding another two to make it 22-1 after five innings
  • Chestnut Hill did score two runs in the seventh inning, but the Rams completed their dominant win over the Griffins on Senior Day
  • Kevin Baez took the win as he pitched five innings. He allowed two hits and one run with five strikeouts. Steve Graziano came in for the final two innings, giving up four hits with two runs on the day

Jefferson will now end their regular season with a trip to go against CACC opponent Bloomfield College on Tuesday, April 29. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
