No.14/RV Baseball Splits Second Series Against Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The scenery was the same, but the order of batting was different as the No.14 ranked Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (27-11, 19-5) competed on their turf of Alumni Field as the visiting team against Holy Family University (14-22, 7-13) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South action on Sunday afternoon. Jefferson fought a tough first game with six runs in the top of the ninth to win 14-8 before falling in the second game to Holy Family 11-1.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 14-8
- Jefferson got on the board first with a ground out run in the second inning. Holy Family added three runs in the bottom of the same inning with a sacrifice bunt and a single throwing error play
- Jefferson added two runs in the second as a fielder's choice potential double play saw a throwing error that gave Kyle Kozlowski a chance to get to homeplate. Luis Beato Mora single up the middle added the tying run on the board
- The Tigers produced four runs in the seventh with a single, two doubles, and a wild pitch score
- The Rams slowly climbed back in the fifth as a Justin Egner score on a wild pitch, a Joshua Lopez grounded out that allowed Jordan Tiburcio to make homeplate, and a passed ball had the Rams trail by one
- A strikeout swinging dropped ball had the catcher throw it to first base, giving Javon Hernandez time to tie it at 7-7 in the seventh inning. A wild pitch helped Jay Salsbery score for a Jefferson lead. Holy Family tied it in the same inning on a homerun
- With the bases loaded, another fielder's choice error by the Tigers added two runs for Jefferson. A walk with the bases loaded made it 11-8, Tiburcio single up the middle tacked on two more runs, and a Lopez one-run double turned the game around to 14-8 for Jefferson
- The Tigers eventually got the bases loaded, but a strikeout ended game one in favor of the Rams
- Tyler Behm started the day pitching the first 4.0 innings, allowing six hits, seven runs with three earned, and two strikeouts. AJ Lefton pitched 3.0 innings, giving up three hits and an earned run as he also took out two batters. Aiden Barbour received the win, pitching in the eight with two strikeouts. Will Hoffman ended the day with two strikeouts in the ninth inning

- The Tigers started off strong with a two-run homerun in the first inning. A two-run single up the middle and a one-run single to center field turned it to a 5-0 contest after two-innings for Holy Family
- Jefferson got close in the top of the fifth inning to score with a runner on second and third. A fielder's choice out at homeplate, a strikeout, and a flyout to center field stopped the Rams attempt
- Holy Family racked up six runs in the bottom of the sixth off three singles, a walk, and a throwing error by third base
- Jefferson eventually got on the board with a Lou Spadafora double to left center, finishing the day with a 11-1 defeat to Holy Family
