Women's Volleyball Gets 3-1 Victory Over Lincoln in Home Opener
PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University (2-3) had their home opener in the Gallagher Center, where they faced against Lincoln University (Pa.) (0-3) in non-conference action. After a tough second set, the Rams ran through the last two with convincing 25-6 victories, earning a 3-1 win over the Lions in Tuesday night competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
- After Lincoln went up 2-1, Jefferson began to get their offense going, taking two and three straight points for an 14-8 advantage.
- The Rams ended the match going to a 11-2 run, with nine straight points behind that attack, to give them the 25-10 win in set one
- Emily McKenna and Morgan Ritche had multiple kills in the first set while Cameron Johnson had three service aces
- The Lions fought back in the second set, trading points with Jefferson as the Rams had an 13-11 lead
- Lincoln began to switch the momentum to their favor, going on a 12-4 run that culminated in a 25-19 win in the second set for the Lions
- Jefferson put their foot on the gas in the third set, earning the first seven points and putting themselves in a 10-3 advantage. McKenna had three straight service aces while Ritchie and Caroline Bond had multiple kills during that stretch
- The Rams did not slow down, keeping their pace with a 15-3 run over Lincoln, with eight points in a row, to take the third set 25-6
- The fourth set went the same as a third, as the first 12 points went to Jefferson. This eventually kept their momentum going, putting their lead at 20-2 as Liz Tanis, Morgan Martin, and McKenna all had kills during that stretch
- The Lions would see four of the next five points go in their favor, but Pemi Areola added two kills with Victoria Hamby earning one herself to end the fourth set 25-6 and give the Rams the 3-1 win in the series
