LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (5-5) topped Lincoln (1-8-1) by an 11-8 score to sweep a home-and-home series against the Lions on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams got going early with three runs in the first inning.
Josh Lopez doubled in a pair and later scored on an error.
Alex Gonzalez made it 4-0 in the second when he drove in
Marquise Wood with a base hit.
The Lions cut the deficit to one (4-3) with a three-run third via a sacrifice fly and a pair of errors. Jefferson tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Wood singled in
Gabe Silva and
Jay Kalieta had a sac fly. The Rams upped the margin to six (9-3) in the fifth with
Chris McLean scoring on a fielder's choice and Wood smacking a two-run triple.
Ryan Coyle came home on an error in the sixth to make it 10-3.
Lincoln got back in the game with two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and one in the eighth to get within three (10-7). Jefferson added an insurance run in the ninth on an error to go up by four (11-7). The Lions tallied one run in their last at-bat but the Rams finished off the victory.
