PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (4-5) got back in the win column with a 9-0 shutout of Lincoln (1-7-1) in non-conference action on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams got on the board in the third when
Josh Lopez singled in
Jay Kalieta with two outs.
Gabe Silva got the start on the mound and got out of some jams on the way to five scoreless innings, including his final pitch of the afternoon when he recorded a strikeout with the bases loaded.
Jefferson created some breathing room with two runs in the sixth.
Diego Santiago scored
Ryan Coyle with a base hit and
Chris McLean scampered home on a wild pitch. The Rams added another pair in the seventh to make it 5-0. Kalieta smacked an RBI double and Coyle followed with an RBI single, both with two down.
The home squad broke it open with a four-run eighth.
Joe Cencetti crushed a pinch-hit, two-run double to left,
Alex Gonzalez singled in a run, and Cencetti scored on an error. The shutout was in jeopardy in the ninth as the Lions loaded the bases with nobody out but
Jack Ricketts whiffed three in a row to keep Lincoln off the board and close out the win.

- Jefferson recorded its first shutout since April 30, 2022 against Felician in a seven-inning game. It was the Rams' first nine-inning shutout since April 29, 2018.
