Volleyball Dealt First Loss by Defending Conference Champion Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA - The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (11-1, 2-1 CACC) had its 11-match win streak come to an end and suffered its first loss of the campaign on Thursday night with a 3-0 setback to defending CACC champion Holy Family at the Gallagher Center.
 
GAMEPLAY
The teams were tied at three in the opening set before the Rams took over with a 7-0 run. The Tigers closed the gap to two (13-11) before Jefferson scored to make it 14-11. Holy Family then caught fire, rattling off 14 of 15 points to stun the Rams and take the frame 25-15.
 
The Tigers posted the first point of the second set then Jefferson tallied five in a row for the advantage. The Rams had a 13-8 lead when HFU scored seven of 10 to get within one (16-15). After a Jefferson kill, the Tigers put together eight straight points for a 23-17 stranglehold. Holy Family took the set 25-20.
 
In the third, the Tigers had a 19-17 lead but the Rams evened the score at 19. Three points later, Holy Family was ahead 22-19 but again Jefferson responded and tied the score at 22. The teams then traded points back and forth, with the Tigers having three set points and the Rams holding four, but neither team could finish off the set. Jefferson's final set point was at 29-28 but HFU came back with four of the next five points to clinch the match, 32-30.
