Seitzinger records hat trick in loss to No. 4 LIU Post

PHILADELPHIA – Senior midfielder Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored three times for the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team in a 17-5 non-conference loss to No. 4 LIU Post Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

After the Rams (1-2) were held scoreless in the opening 30 minutes of play, Seitzinger got Philadelphia on the board with 4:51 gone in the second half as she converted a free-position shot to make the score 12-1.

At the 19:46 mark, Seitzinger cut toward the LIU Post (4-1) goal, received Samantha Ryder's (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) pass from the right, and beat Olivia Kirk to lower left corner for her second goal and trim the deficit to 14-2.

Seitzinger and Ryder tallied back-to-back goals, separated by 3:07, to bring the Rams within 15-4. Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) set up the Seitzinger goal—her team-leading seventh—with a pass from the left side and Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) picked up an assist from behind the net on Ryder's first goal of the year.

DiGnazio—who also had three ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls—closed out the scoring on a free-position shot with 2:31 left in the contest.

The Pioneers, who had nine players in the goal column, were led by Emily Delaney's three goals and five assists. Ryan McKinney (three goals, two assists) and Connor Bird (two goals, three assists) both had five-point efforts. Honey Roche contributed two goals, five draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers for LIU Post—who led 11-0 at the half.

Felicia Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) recorded three saves in the opening 29:48 for Philadelphia, while LIU Post's Olivia Kirk posted five stops in 51:08. The Pioneers owned a 24-15 shot advantage.

The match was halted for 50 minutes with 12 seconds remaining in the opening half due to lightning in the area.

Philadelphia heads to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. for a non-conference clash against Mercy on Friday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
