Wensel, Hughes lead women's volleyball past USciences 3-1

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball won its third straight match by knocking off Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent the University of the Sciences in four sets Wednesday night in Bobby Morgan Arena.

Philadelphia improves to 5-4 overall and evened its conference record at 1-1 after taking the match with set scores of 25-14, 19-25, 25-18, and 25-19. USciences falls to 2-6 overall, 1-2 against the CACC.

Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) and Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) led the Rams' offensive attack with 12 kills each. Hughes posted a .269 hitting percentage, while Wensel hit .231. Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) added nine kills, hit .318, and eight digs. Corinne Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) contributed eight kills.

Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) racked up a match-high 27 assists and eight digs. Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had a team-best 10 digs.

Caitlyn Crawford recorded 19 kills to lead the Devils.

Philadelphia goes for its fourth consecutive win on Friday, Sept. 26 against visiting Felician at 6 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
