Box Score BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. – Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored a team-high four goals for the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team in a 20-11 loss to No. 8/11 LIU Post in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon in Bethpage Stadium.
Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville) recorded a hat-trick, while Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) posted two goals. Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) added four points (one goal, three assists).
Katie Parent (Millville, N.J./Millville) was Philadelphia's (1-4) defensive leader with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The Rams jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead 6:16 in on goals from Mower and Brian.
LIU Post (4-2) answered the Philadelphia goals with seven in a row over a 6:13 span to move ahead 7-2 with 15:50 left in the half. Stefani Vagelatos started the surge with a pair of goals, one assisted by Connor Bird and a free-position goal, to knot the score at two. Jenna Pierro's unassisted tally at the 20:08 mark put the Pioneers in the lead.
Emily Delaney extended the lead to 5-2 with goals at 19:49 and 16:27. Vagelatos' third and final goal of the match and a Cara Douglas goal capped off the surge.
After swapping goals, Philadelphia scored three straight goals to close the LIU Post cushion to 8-6. Seitzinger bookended the spurt with her first two goals of the afternoon, the first one coming with 10:03 left and the second came at the 7:31 mark. Etter added the other goal in the rally.
The Pioneers extended the lead to 12-7 at the half, outscoring the Rams 4-1 over the final 5:47. Connor Bird had three of the four goals and assisted on the fourth, scored by Pierro.
Douglas and Bird got the second half started with a goal each to push the gap to 14-7. The Rams responded with two goals of their own, one from Seitzinger and one from Brian, to close within five with 22:41 left.
With LIU Post up 15-10, the Pioneers closed out the contest with five of the last six goals. Emily Delaney and Kaitlin Gaghan had two goals each during the run.
Bird led the Pioneers with eight points (five goals, three assists) and Delaney added five goals and one assist.
The Pioneers' Olivia Kirk made four saves in the opening 38:57 to earn the win. Philadelphia's Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) stopped five shots in 33:21 and Felicia Brangan (Millville, N.J./Millville) recorded two saves in the final 26:39.
Philadelphia returns to action on Saturday, March 21 with its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener against Post at noon on Ravenhill Field.
