Women's volleyball's streak ends at 12 with 3-0 loss at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team's 12-match winning streak to an end with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 loss to Post in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center.

Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic)—the back-to-back CACC rookie of the week—led the Rams (14-5, 10-2 CACC) with 10 kills and eight digs. Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) added seven kills and 10 digs.

Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) posted 16 assists, while Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had 14 digs.

Neither team was able to dominate the opening set as the teams swapped the lead on eight different occasions and were tied 14 times. Trailing 16-13, Corinne Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus)—the current CACC player of the week—sparked a run of four straight Philadelphia points with a kill to put the Rams ahead 17-16. Philadelphia was unable to capitalize of the run's momentum as Post came back with two points in a row to move back in front 18-17. After Post reestablished a three-point lead (22-19), Philadelphia took of two Eagle errors to close the gap to 22-21. The Eagles recovered and scored the final three points of the set, capped off by a Morgan Griffin ace, to take a 1-0 match lead.

Post never trailed in the second set, leading by as many as nine (17-8) on a Griffin ace. The Rams were able to close the Eagles' lead to four multiple times, but couldn't get any closer.

The final set had the look of the opening set as the teams traded the lead twice and were even four times. With the set tied at 12, Haley Griffin recorded a kill and started a 7-1 Post run to give the Eagles a set-high six-point lead (19-13). After the Rams closed the gap to 21-16 on a service error, the Eagles ended the match with a 4-1 surge.

Haley Griffin led the Eagles (17-8, 10-3 CACC) with nine kills and 11 digs. Kristine Ripson added nine kills, while Brianna Root posted 29 assists.

Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center for a CACC clash against the University of the Sciences on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
