Women's volleyball falls twice on day two on West Chester RAM Fest

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches to wrap up the West Chester RAM Fest on Saturday in West Chester University's Hollinger Field House. The Rams were defeated by Notre Dame (Ohio) 3-2 and host West Chester 3-1.

After dropping set one against Notre Dame 25-18, Philadelphia (1-2) came back to win the next two sets 31-29 and 25-23. The Falcons claimed the fourth set 25-17 and won the match with a 15-9 set-five win.

Junior Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) posted a team-best 16 kills, tying her career high, and five block assists. Junior Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) recorded her first double-double of the year with 11 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Corrine Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) added 11 kills.

Sophomore Michelle Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had a match-best 19 digs. Junior Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) had 29 assists, while sophomore Claudia Papola (Temple, Pa./Muhlenburg) added 20 assists.

The Falcons' Brooke Mako had a match-high 19 kills and Lindsay Shirilla contributed 16 kills.

Against West Chester, the host Golden Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead by taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-11. Philadelphia bounced back to grab set three 25-22. West Chester sealed the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set.

Senior Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) was Philadelphia's offensive leader with 10 kills. Sophomore Lauren Laucella (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added nine kills, while Hughes came up with eight kills.

Morvin posted 19 assists and Chai had 12 digs.

West Chester's Julia O'Brien had a match-high 11 kills.

Philadelphia heads to Holy Family to open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
