Women's volleyball falls to Georgian Court, 3-1

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to host Georgian Court Friday night in the GCU Wellness Center.

Philadelphia (5-7, 4-2 CACC) got off to a solid start with a 25-18 set one victory. Georgian Court (6-8, 4-1 CACC) came back to take the final three sets 25-15, 25-22, and 25-20.

Junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) paced the Ram offense with eight kills to go with a season-best 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) posted six kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle hitter Lauren Laucella (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) each tallied four kills. Laucella added eight total blocks (two solo, six assists).

Sophomore setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) contributed 11 assists, while senior libero Morgan McCarthy (Beaver, Pa./South Side) led the defense with 14 digs.

Tatianna Villariny had a match-high 15 kills for the Lions. Gabriela Berrios contributed 10 kills and 13 digs. Jaslene Lopez dished out 45 assists.

Philadelphia hit .160 (6-2-25) and forced Georgian Court into a -.108 (8-12-37) hitting percentage to win the first set.

In set two, the Lions flipped the script and hit a solid .407 (14-3-27), while the Rams had a hitting percentage of .050 (5-4-20). In the third set, the Lions out-killed the Rams 12-5. Georgian Court owned a 15-8 kill advantage in the final set.

Philadelphia gets right back to work with a Homecoming Day showdown with conference opponent Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m.
