Volleyball starts CACC play with a 3-1 over at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team began Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition with a 3-1 victory over host Georgian Court Thursday night.

After dropping the first set 25-19, the Lady Rams (2-0, 1-0 CACC) responded by hitting .481 (14 kills, one error, 27 total attacks) to dominate set two 25-8. The final two sets were dogfights, with both going past 25, but Philadelphia prevailed in both of them with scores of 29-27 and 27-25.

Middle hitters Chelsea Hughes and Ellie Edgar held their own personal block parties with one solo block and nine block assists each. Edgar added seven kills, while Hughes had six.

Outside hitter Brittany Olson led the Lady Rams with nine kills. Outside hitter Danielle Carney posted a team-best 17 digs to go with her eight kills. Setter Heather Martin recorded a double-double consisting of 17 assists and 12 digs.

Georgian Court (1-4, 0-1 CACC) got a match-high 16 kills from Amy Berry and 10 from Tatiana Villariny.

The Lady Rams return to action in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 8 against host Molloy at noon and Southern Connecticut at 2 p.m.
